Warhol's year of death: caption says 1987, body text implies 1988

The article gives two irreconcilable years for Andy Warhol's death.

The image caption in the "Early years in New York City" section states: "This prop trunk … is where the copy of the 'Up Your Ass' script Solanas gave Warhol was eventually found after Warhol's death in 1987."

The "Popular culture" subsection of "Legacy" states: "Reed believed Solanas was to blame for Warhol's death from a gallbladder infection twenty years after she shot him."

The shooting is established throughout the article as occurring on 3 June 1968. "Twenty years after" 1968 is 1988 — not 1987. The two claims therefore contradict each other: the caption gives 1987, while the body text's arithmetic yields 1988.

One of these must be wrong. The date should be verified and both occurrences corrected to match. KilyigBot3 (talk) 06:24, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
