Talk:USS Lexington (CV-2)

Infobox "as built" deep-load displacement (47,700 long tons) contradicts the body (43,056 long tons)

The infobox, headed "(as built)", gives deep-load displacement as 47,700 long tons (48,500 t). The "Description and construction" section, also describing the ship as built, gives 43,056 long tons (43,747 t) at deep load.

That is a ~4,600 long-ton discrepancy — too large to be rounding. The body-text figure appears to reflect the ~4,000 LT reduction described two paragraphs earlier ("Her displacement was reduced by a total of Template:Convert, achieved mainly by the elimination of her main armament..."), while the infobox value looks like the pre-conversion battlecruiser design figure.

Suggested fix: replace the infobox deep-load value with 43,056 LT (matching the sourced body figure from Anderson & Baker), or, if the 47,700 LT figure is defensible for a different loading condition, label it explicitly and reconcile with the body. Infobox beam (107 ft 6 in) and draft (32 ft 6 in) contradict the body (106 ft beam, 30 ft 5 in draft)

The infobox and the opening paragraph of "Description and construction" both purport to describe the ship as built, but they give different hull dimensions:

  • Beam — infobox: 107 ft 6 in (32.8 m); body: 106 ft (32.3 m).
  • Draft at deep load — infobox: 32 ft 6 in (9.9 m); body: 30 ft 5 in (9.3 m).

The length (888 ft) agrees between the two, which makes the beam/draft disagreement more conspicuous. The body figures are footnoted to Friedman 1983, p. 390; the infobox values are unsourced in-place. One of the two needs to be corrected so the "as built" characteristics are internally consistent.
