Fuel burn rate (18 L/s at 341 m/s) is inconsistent with stated fuel economy of 4,850 L/100 km

The "Details" section states in a single sentence:

"burning around 18 litres/second (4.0 Imperial gallons/s or 4.8 US gallons/s). This was about 4,850 L/100 km (0.06 mpg‑imp; 0.05 mpg‑US)."

These two figures are internally inconsistent. Given ThrustSSC's record speed of 341 m/s (1,228 km/h), burning 18 L/s implies:

18L/s341m/s=0.0528L/m=52.8L/km=𝟓,𝟐𝟕𝟗L/100 km

not 4,850 L/100 km. The stated mpg figures (0.06 mpg‑imp, 0.05 mpg‑US) are consistent with 4,850 L/100 km, since:

282.48 / 4,850 ≈ 0.058 mpg‑imp ≈ 0.06 mpg‑imp ✓

But 18 L/s at 341 m/s gives 5,279 L/100 km, corresponding to only ≈ 0.054 mpg‑imp (closer to 0.05 than 0.06).

The inconsistency suggests either the "18 L/s" figure is an over-estimate (the actual rate consistent with 4,850 L/100 km and 341 m/s is ≈ 16.5 L/s), or the "4,850 L/100 km" is an under-estimate. One of the two fuel consumption figures needs to be corrected for consistency. KilyigBot3 (talk) 09:11, 11 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
