Distance–time inconsistency: 8,900 km corresponds to 10 days at 20 kn but 8.34 days (not 8 days) at 24 kn
The lead states that using the Suez Canal reduces the journey from the Arabian Sea to London "by approximately 8,900 km, to 10 days at 20 kn or 8 days at 24 kn."
The 10-day figure is consistent with 8,900 km:
- 8,900 km ÷ (20 kn × 1.852 km/kn) = 8,900 ÷ 37.04 km/h = 240.3 h = 10.0 days ✓
However, the 8-day figure is not:
- 8,900 km ÷ (24 kn × 1.852 km/kn) = 8,900 ÷ 44.45 km/h = 200.2 h = 8.34 days ✗
For the saving to be exactly 8 days at 24 kn, the distance saved would need to be:
- 8 days × 24 h × 24 kn × 1.852 km/kn = 8,534 km
…which is about 370 km less than the 8,900 km stated. Either the distance saving should be ~8,500 km (not 8,900 km) if the "8 days at 24 kn" figure is correct, or the "8 days at 24 kn" should be "8.3 days at 24 kn" (or "8 days at 25.5 kn") if the 8,900 km figure is correct. The two values as currently stated are mutually inconsistent.
