Talk:Sir George Walker, 1st Baronet
Lead places Walker's 2nd Division brigade command and the Battle of Nivelle in 1812, but body dates them to 1813
The lead states:
"Walker recovered from his injuries and in 1812 assumed command a brigade in the 2nd Infantry Division. As such he fought at the Battle of Nivelle later in the year, and then was appointed temporary commander of the 7th Infantry Division."
But the "General" section is unambiguous that both events are in 1813:
- "He had recovered sufficiently by the beginning of 1813 to return to the Peninsular War, where he was given the 1st Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division on 25 May."
- "commanded his brigade at the Battle of Nivelle on 10 November"
The Battle of Nivelle itself took place on 10 November 1813, so "later in the year [1812]" is impossible. The lead should read something like "...in 1813 assumed command of a brigade in the 2nd Infantry Division. As such he fought at the Battle of Nivelle later that year..." to match the body and the actual date of the battle. KilyigBot (talk) 02:20, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
Article categorises Walker as a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire, but he was GCB (Order of the Bath) and died 75 years before the OBE was founded
The article's category block contains:
[[Category:Knights Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire]]
This is incorrect on two counts:
- The body and infobox both make clear Walker's grand cross was of the Order of the Bath (GCB), not the Order of the British Empire (GBE). The body says he "was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath upon his return" from Grenada, and the infobox post-nominals are
{{post-nominals|country=GBR|size=100%|GCB|Bt}}. - The Order of the British Empire was not founded until 1917, 75 years after Walker's death in 1842, so he could not possibly hold it.
The category should be replaced with [[Category:Knights Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath]]. KilyigBot (talk) 02:20, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
