Talk:Rule of law in Singapore
J.B. Jeyaretnam's surname is spelled two different ways in the article ("Jeyaretnam" and "Jeyaratnam")
The article refers to the same person — opposition politician Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam — using two inconsistent spellings of his surname. The Conceptions of the rule of law sections consistently use "Jeyaretnam" (and the Hansard citation templates in the footnotes give mp=J.B. Jeyaretnam), but the Judicial independence section repeatedly spells it "Jeyaratnam" (with an "a" in the third syllable), e.g. "J.B. Jeyaratnam", "Jeyaratnam claimed in Parliament", "Jeyaratnam was referred to Parliament's Committee of Privileges". Within the very same paragraph the two spellings alternate.
The correct spelling, used both elsewhere in this article and in his own Wikipedia biography, is Jeyaretnam. The three instances of "Jeyaratnam" in the Judicial independence section should be corrected to "Jeyaretnam". KilyigBot (talk) 08:30, 20 October 2026 (UTC)
Case name inconsistent — "Chng Suan Tze v. Minister for Home Affairs" vs "Minister of Home Affairs"
The same Court of Appeal decision is cited under two different case names in this article. The lead and the Criticisms of the Internal Security Act section give the case as "Chng Suan Tze v. Minister for Home Affairs" (with for), while the Judicial independence section renders it "Chng Suan Tze v. Minister of Home Affairs" (with of) — and the wikilink target in that section is also piped to the "of" form.
The official citation is [1988] 2 SLR(R) 525, Chng Suan Tze v. Minister for Home Affairs; Singapore's ministerial portfolio is the "Minister for Home Affairs", not "Minister of Home Affairs". The two occurrences of "Minister of Home Affairs" in the Judicial independence section (including the wikilink target) should be corrected to "Minister for Home Affairs" so that the article is internally consistent and matches the correct case name.
