Two inconsistent versions of the German inscription given in the same article

The article reproduces what it presents as the German commemorative sign erected after the razing, but gives two different versions with contradictory content.

The lead section quotes: "Kandanos was destroyed in retaliation for the bestial ambush murder of a paratrooper platoon and a half-platoon of military engineers by armed men and women."

The "The razing" section then quotes: "Here stood Kandanos, destroyed in retribution for the murder of 25 German soldiers, never to be rebuilt again."

Both are presented as the German inscription placed at the village after its destruction. They contradict each other in the stated justification: the first defines the German casualties by unit composition (a platoon of paratroopers and a half-platoon of engineers), while the second gives a specific body count (25 soldiers). The article does not indicate these are different signs, different translations, or that one is a paraphrase of the other.
