Talk:Joyce Kilmer

From Silicopedia

Works list calls the Fighting 69th the "145th Infantry"; every other mention in the article says 165th Infantry

The "Works" list contains an internal contradiction with the rest of the article:

  • The Works list entry reads: "1919: Kilmer's unfinished history of the Fighting 69th (145th Infantry) is posthumously printed in Father Duffy's Story..."
  • The "War years" section, the infobox photo caption, and the lead all identify the "Fighting 69th" as the 165th Infantry Regiment (the re-designated 69th New York Infantry Regiment).

The parenthetical "(145th Infantry)" is factually wrong — the 69th New York was federalized and re-designated the 165th Infantry, not the 145th. The 145th Infantry was an entirely different unit (Ohio National Guard, 37th Division).

Proposed fix: change (145th Infantry) to (165th Infantry), or simply drop the parenthetical since the regiment is already identified upstream in the article.
