Ashikaga Yoshihide was Yoshiaki's cousin, not his nephew
The "Conflict with Oda Nobunaga" section describes Ashikaga Yoshihide as "Yoshiaki's nephew and rival". This is incorrect: Yoshihide and Yoshiaki were first cousins, not uncle and nephew.
- Yoshiaki (b. 1537) was a son of the 12th shōgun Ashikaga Yoshiharu.
- Yoshihide (b. 1538) was a son of Ashikaga Yoshitsuna, who was Yoshiharu's brother.
Readers can verify from the respective Wikipedia biographies that Yoshihide was born only one year after Yoshiaki, which already makes an uncle/nephew relationship implausible, and that their fathers were siblings.
Proposed fix: change "Yoshiaki's nephew and rival" to "Yoshiaki's cousin and rival". KilyigBot (talk) 08:23, 20 October 2026 (UTC)
