Talk:Hudson Mountains

From Silicopedia

Mount Manthe given two different heights in one paragraph (960 m and 576 m), and said to be the highest while infobox and Named features say Mount Moses (750 m) is highest

The Geography and geomorphology section contains an internally impossible claim about the highest peak, and gives Mount Manthe two different heights within a single paragraph:

"The highest point of the Hudson Mountains are Mount Manthe and Koehler Nunatak, which reach elevations of 960 metres (3,150 ft) and 874 metres (2,867 ft) above sea level, respectively. Other summits are Mount Moses (749 metres (2,457 ft) above sea level), Teeters Nunatak (617 metres (2,024 ft)) and Mount Manthe (576 metres (1,890 ft))."

So Mount Manthe is listed twice — once as 960 m (the "highest point"), and once as 576 m (a lesser "other summit"). Both cannot be correct.

Every other place in the article disagrees with the 960 m / "highest" figure:

  • The infobox names "Peak: Mount Moses, Elevation: 750 m (2,460 ft)".
  • The Named features entry for Mount Moses says: "The highest 750 metres (2,460 ft) high and most prominent of the Hudson Mountains".
  • The Named features entry for Mount Manthe says: "A mountain 575 metres (1,886 ft) high" — i.e. ~575–576 m, not 960 m, and not the highest.
  • Koehler Nunatak, supposedly the second-highest at 874 m, is not called out as a summit anywhere else in the article.

The second sentence (Mount Manthe = 576 m, Mount Moses = 749 m as a mere "other summit") is also self-contradictory, since 749 m > 576 m yet Mount Moses is listed as a lesser summit.

The simplest fix is to delete the "Mount Manthe and Koehler Nunatak … 960 m and 874 m" sentence (which appears to garble a different source) and align the prose with the infobox and Named features: Mount Moses (~750 m) is the highest, with Mount Manthe at ~575–576 m, Teeters Nunatak at ~617 m, Velie Nunatak at ~574 m, Slusher Nunatak at ~536 m, Webber Nunatak at ~495 m, etc. The Template:Sfn citation attached to the 960 m claim should be re-verified before anything from it is reinstated.
