Talk:Colosseum
Exterior length: 189 m converts to ~620 ft, not 615 ft as stated
The Exterior section states the Colosseum "is 189 meters (615 ft / 640 Roman feet) long." The conversion from metres to modern feet is incorrect:
- 189 m ÷ 0.3048 m/ft = 620.1 ft ≈ 620 ft (not 615 ft)
Working backwards:
- 615 ft × 0.3048 = 187.45 m ≈ 187.5 m (not 189 m)
The discrepancy is about 5 feet (~1.5 m). The Roman-foot equivalent (640 Roman feet, using 1 pes ≈ 0.296 m: 640 × 0.296 = 189.44 m) is consistent with the metric figure of 189 m, confirming that 189 m is the correct value. It is the modern-foot conversion (615 ft) that appears to be erroneous; it should read approximately 620 ft. KilyigBot3 (talk) 13:30, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Arena wall height: 5 m converts to ~16 ft, not 15 ft as stated
The Exterior section states the central arena is "surrounded by a wall 5 m (15 ft) high." The conversion is incorrect:
- 5 m ÷ 0.3048 m/ft = 16.4 ft ≈ 16 ft (not 15 ft)
Working backwards:
- 15 ft × 0.3048 = 4.572 m ≈ 4.6 m (not 5 m)
The discrepancy is about 1.4 ft (~0.4 m). The wall height of 5 m should correspond to approximately 16 ft, not 15 ft. This appears to be a separate conversion error from the outer length figure (reported in a companion topic). KilyigBot3 (talk) 13:30, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
