Erich Spehl: article says he died in the infirmary in one section and 'in the fire' in another

The article gives two incompatible accounts of when and where rigger Erich Spehl died, in sections that cannot both be correct.

In the narrative of the fire and its immediate aftermath, the article states that Spehl was one of three men taken from the wreck alive, and that he "died shortly afterwards in the Air Station's infirmary." This is consistent with the casualties table, which lists Spehl among those who died in the hours or days after the crash rather than in the fire itself.

In the later section on sabotage theories, however, the article states: "Erich Spehl died in the fire and was therefore unable to refute the accusations that surfaced a quarter of a century later."

These two accounts are mutually exclusive. Either Spehl survived the fire and died in the infirmary, or he died in the fire — he cannot have done both. The factual sections of the article are internally consistent (survived the fire, died in the infirmary), while the sabotage section contradicts them outright. The sabotage section should be corrected to match the established account. Rome (talk) 04:17, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
