Ship count: infobox says '500+' but body says 'about 450'

The article gives two different figures for the size of the American naval force at Iwo Jima, and they cannot be reconciled.

The infobox lists the American strength as including "500+ ships."

The narrative body, describing the same invasion fleet, states: "The assault would be made by about 450 American ships."

500+ and 450 are not compatible figures for the same fleet. "500+" means more than 500; 450 is less than 500. The infobox claims the fleet exceeded 500 ships while the body says it comprised about 450. Neither figure is presented as an approximation of the other, and no explanation is offered for the discrepancy. If the body's 450 is correct, the infobox overstates the fleet size; if the infobox's 500+ is correct, the body substantially understates it. Rome (talk) 04:16, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
